Computing
Computing at St John and St James aims to teach our children the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to navigate and thrive in an ever-changing digital world, equipping them to use technology safely, responsibly and creatively.
Our teachers use Purple Mash to deliver our ICT curriculum. This engaging and interactive resource gives pupils the opportunity to develop a wide range of digital skills. From learning how to send emails and create online blogs to designing digital publications and coding their own projects, our children explore technology in meaningful and exciting ways.
Technology is an essential part of modern life, and we are committed to providing as many hands-on experiences as possible. We encourage our pupils to think creatively, solve problems and collaborate using digital tools, helping them to build skills that will support them both in school and beyond.

Online safety is a key priority at St John and St James. We teach our pupils how to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly, ensuring they understand how to protect their personal information, recognise potential risks and report any concerns. Through regular lessons, discussions and assemblies, children learn about topics such as safe searching, appropriate online behaviour, cyberbullying, privacy settings and the responsible use of social media. We work in partnership with parents and carers to promote consistent messages about online safety both in school and at home.

Educational visits are a valuable part of our ICT curriculum, providing pupils with meaningful, real-world experiences that enhance their learning. Our Social Media Team begin the year with an introductory session at Apple, where they gain insight into digital creativity, creating and editing videos, and developing skills they can bring back to school to help manage our social media page.
In addition, pupils have taken part in a workshop at Tower Bridge, where they were challenged to redesign the east London skyline. This inspiring experience enabled them to apply their computing and design skills in a practical context, encouraging creativity, collaboration and innovative thinking.
